When people find out I am a Master Reiki Practitioner, the first question is almost always the same. What exactly is Reiki? It is a fair question, and I love answering it, because Reiki is much simpler and much gentler than most people expect.
Reiki, in Plain Words
Reiki is a form of energy healing that began in Japan in the early 1900s. The word roughly translates to universal life energy. The idea at its heart is simple. When life piles up on us, our energy gets stirred and scattered, the way still water clouds when you disturb the bottom of a pond. Reiki is a quiet hour that helps everything settle and clear again.
In a session, I place my hands lightly on or just above your body while you rest. You stay fully clothed the entire time. There is nothing you need to do, nothing you need to believe, and nothing strange happens. Most people simply feel deeply, wonderfully relaxed.
What Happens in a Session at My Studio
You arrive, we chat for a few minutes about how you are doing and anything you would like the session to focus on, and then you lie down comfortably on a treatment table. Soft light, a warm blanket if you like, and quiet. Then your only job is to breathe.
I work slowly and gently, moving my hands to different areas of the body. Some people feel warmth or a light tingling. Some drift into a light sleep. Some simply enjoy an hour where absolutely nothing is asked of them. Every single one of those is a good session. There is no right way to receive Reiki.
Afterward, most clients describe feeling lighter, clearer, or like they finally exhaled all the way. My favorite thing anyone has told me is that they did not realize how much they were holding until they felt what it was like to put it down.
Why People Come to Reiki
People find their way to my table for all kinds of reasons. Stress that will not loosen its grip. Grief that needs a soft place to land. Trouble sleeping. Big life transitions. Or sometimes just curiosity and a tired body. You do not need a crisis to deserve an hour of deep rest.
I do want to say this clearly, because honesty matters to me. Reiki is not a replacement for medical care, and I would never claim otherwise. Think of it as a companion to taking care of yourself, the way rest, movement, and time in the sun are. As a companion, it is one of the gentlest gifts you can give your body and mind.
Do You Have to Believe in It
No. You truly do not. Some of my most relaxed clients came in as complete skeptics. You do not have to understand Reiki for it to help you rest, the same way you do not need to understand why a long exhale feels good. If nothing else, you will spend one full hour lying down in a peaceful room with no phone, no demands, and no noise. When was the last time you gave yourself that?
Come Rest for an Hour
I offer one hour Reiki sessions for fifty dollars at my studio on Main Street in Aztec, an easy drive from Farmington and anywhere in the Four Corners. Bring your questions, or bring nothing at all except a willingness to rest. Sometimes that is exactly where healing starts.
